Ralph Vaughan Williams's one-act opera Riders to the Sea and an innovative staging of his song cycle Songs of Travel. This directed by Rachel Hanauer, Assistant Directed by Jeff Blanchette and music-directed by Nathaniel Baker on piano.
Riders to the Sea is a short opera based on the play by J. Synge. It poetically dramatizes an Irish story about a family finding themselves up against the unbeatable forces of the sea. This will be performed by Kate Norigian, soprano (Cathleen), Rachel Hanauer, soprano (Nora), Julie Rumbold, mezzo-soprano (Maurya), Nicholas Tocci, baritone (Bartley) and features an SSAA women's chorus. Songs of Travel is a song cycle with poems by Robert Lewis Stevenson about the life, love, freedom, and emotions of a vagabond.
This show is part of the Springboard Season, full of new and developing projects proposed by community and ensemble members.
