THE FELLOWSHIP

This class is divided into 10 distinct lessons for newer students that have never taken an improv class as well as seasoned improvisers who are looking for a new take on some old techniques.

Each week is designed to ensure students learn through group experience and active play. This class will approach the Learning Targets from different angles with a focus on process, not product, allowing students to learn and grow at their own pace.

ABOUT

The Speakeasy is designed to use improv for positive change through fast-paced play and collaboration. Through teaching the deeper nature of improv, The Speakeasy aims to inspire Artists to stay actively engaged in their craft, grow as individuals, and contribute to the growth of their artistic community. We want our community to have a blast, grow as people, and feel comfortable doing exactly what our name says… speak easy!

LEARNING TARGETS

  • The Onion: Each student will learn the structure of the improv format known as The Onion.
  • “Yes And…”: Students will understand how this phrase helps with the creative play of improv and how it translates to everyday life.
  • Listening: Regardless of experience level, every improviser needs to practice the art of active listening and being engaged with a scene partner.
  • Group Dynamic: Each student will understand the importance of a healthy group dynamic and how their role contributes to the overall performance of the troupe.
  • Stage Presence: This class will teach the tricks of theatrical stage presence as well as finding the specific approach that each student should take to being comfortable on stage, regardless of experience level.
  • Acting: Learn the basics of acting and how improv contributes to living authentically in diverse realities, whether they be scripted or improvised.
