Chicken Wire Empire began as a four-piece traditional bluegrass band in Milwaukee, WI. The band honed their traditional sound, encapsulated in their 2014 debut album Chicken Wire Empire. A musical transformation took place when Chicken Wire Empire performed an Old & In The Way tribute show: with half of the group rooted in bluegrass and the other half steeped in jam band music, Chicken Wire Empire joined the roster of high-energy “jamgrass.”
Chicken Wire Empire has shared the stage with renowned musicians Yonder Mountain String Band, 30db, The Travelin' McCourys, The Big Wu, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, and has performed at regional festivals such as Blue Ox and Boats & Bluegrass.
The band’s journey was documented by director Ross Monagle in the film All It Takes, which premiered in 2016 at the Oriental Theatre, in Milwaukee.
