The NIU Gamelan Ensemble, under the direction of Alex Yoffe is a student performance group from the School of Music and Center for Southeast Asian Studies at NIU. Gamelan, a percussion- dominated genre, is the traditional ensemble music of Indonesia. An integral part of the country’s culture, gamelan often accompanies religious rituals and other important ceremonies. A pre-concert demonstration of the instruments will be provided by the members of Gamelan.
