Leapin' Lizards!  “We’re getting a New Deal for Christmas this year!”

The happy ending Christmas miracle of “Annie The Musical” is coming your way for the holiday season!

This irrepressible comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved musicals.

Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, feature some of the greatest musical theatre hits ever written, including "Tomorrow."

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City.

She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC.

In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations... and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Annie is the perfect family-friendly musical.

Little Orphan Annie, the comic strip, premiered in the 1920s in the New York Daily News, and became one of the most widely read strips in the 30s and 40s.

Lyricist-director Martin Charnin bought a coffee table book called “The Life and Hard Times of Little Orphan Annie” as a Christmas gift for a friend in 1970.

The clerk at the bookstore was too busy to wrap the book, so Charnin took the book home to wrap it. Instead, he read it and fell in love with the strip, and set out to secure the rights during the Christmas week of 1970. The friend never got the book.

Charnin championed the idea to colleagues Charles Strouse, a two-time Tony-winning composer, and Thomas Meehan, a short story writer and columnist for The New Yorker. It took a great deal of research, discussion, and creativity among the three to come up with a concept they all agreed would work for a musical, but the team was finally formed in 1971, and they began to write the musical.

Now the world’s best-loved musical comes to the CCP stage with its unforgettable songs such as “It’s A Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” plus the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow.”

We’re tying the musical magic of “Annie” up with a bright red bow for you and your family to enjoy for Christmas in 2022!
