Summerland Music Society Presents:
Phantom of the Opera
w/ Live Piano Accompaniment by Cary Brown
About The Phantom of the Opera:
Pianist Cary Brown provides a live improvised soundtrack for the opulent 1925 film adaptation of Gaston Leroux's celebrated novel. This chilling silent classic stars Lon Chaney (nicknamed the "Man of a Thousand Faces") as a mysteriously disfigured composer living below the Paris Opera House and features a cast of several hundred extras.
Cary Brown, piano
Cary Brown received a double degree from the University of Rochester/Eastman School of Music in film studies and piano performance. While taking classes at the George Eastman House, he utilized their extensive cinematic archive to start his own silent film series. After touring extensively with the Skatalites from Jamaica and the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, Cary settled in Putnam County, NY and became the musicians’ coordinator/ballet pianist at Purchase College Conservatory of Dance. Cary regularly provides improvised accompaniment for classic silent films at the Julia Butterfield Library in Cold Spring, NY. He has performed with Summerland Music Society since 2013.
