The Harder Courage

Sheriff Benjamin Holmes arrests Robert Day on suspicion of murdering a young logger in this historical tragedy based on true events in 1891-1892. Over a period of eight months, the quiet, contemplative sheriff and the talkative, mercurial prisoner form an unlikely friendship, and when there is no way to escape the reality that Ben must execute Robert, the men help each other find the courage to face the worst day of their lives. Written by local playwright Leslie Slape, this play was a finalist at the 2018 Ashland New Plays Festival and was presented at the 2019 Theatre 33 developmental workshops.
