Part Two: at first sight

At First Sight is a song cycle based on a set of six poems written by poet Ashley Lumpkin and set to music by composer Christopher Cooley for lyric coloratura soprano Dr. Diana Thompson-Brewer. In At First Sight, the woman reflects on her decades long relationship and marriage with her Black husband, highlighting the complexities of modern Black love, including her fears of his untimely death due to violence, the responsibility of raising a Black child, and the beauty and celebration of Black families.
