A Doll’s House - Part 2 play is set 15 years after the ending of the Henrik Ibsen play, A Doll’s House. In the final scene of A Doll’s House, Nora decides to live an independent life away from her husband and children. In making a life-changing decision, she says goodbye to her past life. But at some point, Nora must ask those who she leaves a final question. In A Doll's House - Part 2 Nora eventually returns to the house, but she must face the family she left behind and deal with the consequences.
Not many plays have a “sequel” similar to A Doll’s House - Part 2. The play shines a light on what could have happened to Nora, albeit with a 21st-century focus. Lucas Hnath's 2017 play A Doll’s House - Part 2 play premiered in California and transferred to Broadway in the same year. A Doll's House - Part 2 received eight Tony nominations including Best New Play. Laurie Metcalf, who played Nora, won a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play.
