The Matthews Presents: The Resonant Rogues

Saturday, June 18, 2022

Matthews Opera House, 612 N Main St, Spearfish, SD

Doors: 6:30 pm

Show: 7:30 pm

Folk duo The Resonant Rogues have been winning over audiences worldwide, and on June 18 they’re making a stop at the Matthews Opera House for a one-night-only performance.

Song-writing duo Keith Smith and Sparrow, the power behind The Resonant Rogues, have developed a signature sound, performing old-fashioned originals with banjo, guitar, fiddle and accordion. Billed as “dark Appalachian folk,” their music speaks through the poetry of lyrics, telling real stories of friendships, challenges and experiences.

The Rogues describe their sound as “folk noir,” a term they coined to encompass the broad sounds of traditional Americana folk with the diverse flavors of New Orleans street jazz, French manouche and Middle Eastern rhythms. The music reflects the couple’s adventurous nature which has led them to, among other things, travel the highways of America, busk the streets of Budapest, and learn Turkish Romani dance in Istanbul.
