Richard Lederer, Union-Tribune language columnist, best-selling language author, and former Usage Editor for the Random House Dictionary of the English Language, will illuminate essential grammar, usage, and punctuation, including the terminal preposition, split infinitive, they as a third-person singular pronoun, and the utility of the serial comma. Come prepared to laugh and learn!
Richard Lederer is the author of 60 books about language, history, and humor, including his best-selling Anguished English series and his current titles, A Pleasury of Word & Phrase Origins and So That’s What It Means! He is a founding co-host of “A Way With Words,” broadcast on KPBS.
Dr. Lederer’s syndicated column, “Lederer on Language,” appears in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States, including the San Diego Union-Tribune. He has been named International Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International’s Golden Gavel winner.
This is a benefit to support Lamplighters Theatre La Mesa. All ticket sales will go to Lamplighters, and during this event, Dr. Lederer will be auctioning off the most precious commodity – his time. Highest bidders war will have the opportunity to choose one or both of the following options:
1. LEDERER ON LANGUAGE. Language author and columnist Dr. Richard Lederer will come to your home, book club, child’s school, house of worship, local library, service club, or business to present whatever program of language learning and fun you wish.
2. POKER 101. As the father of Howard “The Professor” Lederer and Annie Duke, “The Duchess of Poker,” Richard Lederer is the most successful breeder of world-class poker players in history. Dr. Lederer will talk about the great American game of Texas Hold’em and instruct you in its fundamentals. Beginning and intermediate players are warmly welcomed.
