DOUBLE FEATURE
Yiddish Animal Songs
by Jesse Greenberg / a glassy ruckus
Queens-based musical duo A Glassy Ruckus (Jesse Greenberg and Naeemah Maddox) performs two pieces inspired by Yiddish folk tales about animals and interspecies relationships: “Diary of a Squirrel” (1920) by Sonya Kantor and “Zlateh the Goat” (1966) by Isaac Bashevis Singer.
Leah and The Rabbit
by Mikayla Wilson/American Myth Center
Leah & the Rabbit uses playful puppetry and spirited live storytelling to intertwine the stories of Brer Rabbit and a freed woman named Leah. This piece delights and sparks conversation around appropriation, emancipation, and the forgotten stories of the enslaved people.
