Join Shakespeare & Friends theater company for a staged reading of Kimberly Akimbo at 7 PM on Tuesday, August 12 in the Pavillion, Tryon Fine Arts Center’s state-of-the-art indoor performance space. Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, Kimberly Akimbo is a hilarious and heartrending play about a teenager with a rare condition causing her body to age faster than it should. Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely-sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love.
The poignant, joyful comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire has inspired a hit musical and captured imaginations around the world. Experience the play that started it all with an intimate evening of reader’s theater directed by Catherine Gillet. Cast members include Lori Corda, Luke Laughter, Marriance Carruth, Ary Parks, and Darlene Cah as Kimberly. Tickets are $15, with taxes and fees included.
