| Michael Jefry Stevens Quartet featuring Brian "Breeze" Cayolle
Experience what its like to be a performer on the TFAC stage during TFAC's Stage Door Jazz Series. This quartet features Michael Jefry Stevens on the piano, Brian "Breeze" Cayolle on saxophone, Rick Dilling on drums and Zack Page on bass. Pianist, Composer and “Steinway Artist,” Michael Jefry Stevens performs extensively in Europe, Latin America and North America. He has composed over 340 works for both large and small ensembles. An active band-leader for over 35 years, his current working musical ensembles include the "Conference Call Quartet," the "Fonda/Stevens Group," the Hungarian "Eastern Boundary Quartet," his collaboration with New Orleans horn man, Brian “Breeze” Cayolle, his recent collaboration with Dame Evelyn Glennie, and his 12 piece North Carolina based “Mountain Chamber Jazz Ensemble.” Michael has released over 100 cds featuring his own music and has performed and/or recorded extensively with many of the top names in Jazz, including Dave Liebman, Oliver Lake, Dave Douglas, Leo Smith, Matt Wilson, Han Bennink, Mark Feldman, Pheeroan AkLaff, Charles Moffett Sr., Dame Evelyn Glennie, Billy Martin and many others. In 2016 Michael was voted “Best Composer of WNC” by the Mountain Xpress, and received a 2017 Regional Project Artist Grant from the Toe River Arts Council.
New Orleans native Brian Breeze Cayolle’s rich and soulful saxophone style was born from the traditions of the Jazz, Blues and R&B of his hometown. World renown for his strong and spirited tenor saxophone, he has performed with many of the great artists of his time and many of the legends of New Orleans music. His sound and style have taken him around the world, igniting crowds to standing ovations from the Montreux Jazz Festival to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. | An Evening of Celtic Music
Jamie Laval and Amber Rose take an exciting musical journey through Scotland, Ireland, and Brittany, evocatively reimagining Gaelic love songs, rustic peasant dances, and recounting mythic tales from the ancient Celtic world.
Jamie is acclaimed throughout the U.S. and Great Britain as a premier performer of traditional instrumental Celtic music and original compositions inspired by ancient Highland bagpiping. Jamie won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship, performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and presented a TEDx Talk on the value of music and arts in our communities.
Amber is a rising star on the vocal horizon. Her soaring, angelic voice brings to mind a fairytale-like quality in ancient airs and ballads. Amber's musical versatility sees her performing folk music regularly with Jamie Laval, while also becoming increasingly in demand in the world of opera. She was first place winner of the District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and recently made her first international appearance performing in the magnificent Teatro Comunale in Italy.

| Lunar New Year
Min Xiao-Fen & River Guerguerian perform for historical silent films to celebrate the Lunar New Year
This event is a treat for cinephiles and music aficionados alike. Following “White Lotus,”Ms Min’s acclaimed score for the 1934 classic Chinese silent film “The Goddess,” she received a commission from the Smithsonian Institution in 2023 to compose new original soundtracks for “Romance of the Fruit Peddler” and “Romance of the Western Chamber,” two historical Chinese silent films from the 1920s. Now these two scores are being recorded an album “Metta.” Known for her innovative approach to traditional music and her ability to seamlessly integrate diverse musical styles, Ms. Min will perform with master percussionist River Guerguerian, a leading figure in classical, jazz, and world music. Together, they bring a unique cross-cultural expression and artistic vision to the stage. Both films will be shown during the performance.
This show will be performed Thursday, January 30th at 7:30 pm in Tryon Fine Arts Center's Pavillion.

This professional jazz ensemble is made up of top musicians, specializing in performances of traditional compositions from the Great American Songbook and today’s cutting-edge arrangements. The group also performs a wide range of material covering all eras of jazz repertoire including the music and arrangements of legends including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and more. Violinist, educator and composer, Christian Howes was voted #1 in the Downbeat Critics Poll (“Rising Stars/Violin”), named among the top three jazz violinists in the JazzTimes critics poll, and nominated for Violinist of the Year by the Jazz Journalist Association. He received the Residency Partner Award through Chamber Music America, earned a USArtists grant through the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and was invited by the U.S. State department to teach and perform as a cultural ambassador twice, in Ukraine and Montenegro. His release on Resonance Records, “Southern Exposure” earned recognition in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Downbeat, Jazz Times, as well as a six-night run at Lincoln Center. His release, “American Spirit” was named among the Best Jazz Albums of the Year″ by the Huffington Post. Howes is the founder of “Creative Strings“, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to expand music education through the creation of online curriculum, conferences, and visits to schools teaching improvisation, contemporary styles, and related subjects. Mr. Tambourine Man not only lived history, he made history with his fearless sense of experimentation. As the leader of the influential 60s group, The Byrds, he was on the leading edge, combining the rock beat of the Beatles with the folk sensibilities of Bob Dylan, to create the genre known as “folk-rock.” His groundbreaking work on The Byrds “Sweetheart Of The Rodeo” album, is widely credited with ushering in the genre of country rock. Roger’s solo career began in 1973 and has yielded 13 albums, a Grammy nomination, and extensive touring and performing for enthralled audiences ever since.
