Featuring the American Spiritual ensemble

In its season opening concert, SSO is delighted to welcome American Spiritual Ensemble as our guest in a performance of Porgy and Bess in concert. The ASE was founded in 1995 by Dr. Everett McCorvey in order to maintain and honor music pioneered by enslaved African people. Porgy and Bess is one of George Gershwins’most memorable scores. You will recognize several pieces including ‘Summertime”, “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’”, “It Ain’t Necessarily So”, and many more!
