William Shakespeare's
LEAR
Directed by guest artist
Andrea J. Dymond
From the Director:
“[King] Lear is a play about family and power, fear and jealousy; love and betrayal; loyalty and loss. I’m interested in examining how all these things land, when explored through the lens of a matriarchal society. How do stings of the curses and betrayals differ, when slung among Lear and her daughters? Though Gloucester is betrayed and saved by the actions of his sons, do the juxtaposition of their actions, their loyalties, grasping and losses resonate differently alongside service to a Queen? Beyond the differences within the families, the journey of this LEAR will be to see what will be discovered in the larger body politic of the society within the play and without.
