Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble (PJCE) will feature legendary Portland guitarist and composer, Dan Balmer, in a two-part concert. Balmer, who continues his storied career here in the Pacific Northwest (and beyond) will be featured as a performer and as a composer in both a quartet, and in front of the flagship 12-member PJCE. He has assembled some of his closest musical confidants to participate as arrangers and ensemble musicians. The evening starts with an album release event that highlights his upcoming release on PJCE Records, When the Night. This album full of new original music from Balmer features an all-star New York-based organ trio of Balmer, Gary Versace (organ), and Rudy Royston (drums). In the second part of the concert, his musical vision will be brought to life with arrangements of his tunes by Clay Giberson, Bill Athens, Bryn Roberts, Charlie 3rown, and Alex Koehler (a former student of Balmer’s at Lewis and Clark College) for the PJCE.
