Sierra Madre Playhouse is hosting a jazz event featuring Larry Koonse and the Los Anegles Jazz Quartet on Sunday at 7:30 PM. This evening promises an immersive musical experience with one of the renowned figures in jazz guitar.

Larry Koonse, who started his guitar journey at age seven, comes from a musical family. He developed his skills under Jimmy Wyble, and at fifteen, recorded an album with his father, Dave Koonse. In 1984, Larry became the first graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California.

His career has taken him worldwide, including a six-year tour with the John Dankworth quartet and performances with Cleo Laine. His collaborations extend to artists like Mel Torme, Bob Brookmeyer, and Natalie Cole. Larry has performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall, and the Sydney Opera House, and has been a soloist with the L.A. Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Larry's discography includes over 300 albums, featuring collaborations with Linda Ronstadt, Ray Brown, and Charlie Haden. His solo guitar work is highlighted in the film "Crazy," about guitarist Hank Garland.
