The Farmington Concert Band, under the direction of maestro Damien Crutcher, presents “Pure Michigan, a Musical Postcard” on March 17th at the Hawk - Farmington Hills Community Center. The FCB reprises this tribute concert theme featuring a choice selection of music by four composers who have ties to the State of Michigan. “The Light Fantastic” march by late Leonard B. Smith, who was the founder and conductor of the renowned Detroit Concert Band, was composed as a tribute to Detroit Edison. “Golden Jubilee” by Kris Johnson, a home-grown jazz trumpeter, composer and educator, was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the DSO Civic Youth program. “Until the Night Collapses” by Grammy nominated composer Andrew David Perkins, who studied at MSU and UM, is dedicated to the students, parents & staff of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. “Lincolnshire Posy” by the innovative composer, Percy Grainger, who served on the faculty at Interlochen from 1930-1944, is easily one of the most famous and well-known pieces written for bands and has become a cornerstone of the wind repertoire.
Founded in 1966, The FCB is the home to one of the oldest continuously operating community wind ensembles in Michigan featuring the 60 piece Farmington Concert Band under the direction of Maestro Damien Crutcher. The FCB’s ongoing mission embraces cultural arts, public service, and a life-long education opportunity for musicians.
