Merely Players presents
Henry IV: The Follies of Falstaff

August 10 at 7:30 pm

Main Stage- Starker Auditorium

Adults $17

Students/Senior $15

Wacky drunken hijinks and tense political machinations trade off in this new conflated adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Henry IV Parts 1 and 2. King Henry IV of England is at his wit’s end with his first born son, Prince Henry (aka Hal). Instead of, ya know, learning how to rule a country, Hal instead spends his days hanging out with the notoriously witty drunkard and all-around scoundrel Sir John Falstaff and his merry band of borderline criminals. Meanwhile, rebellion is brewing—Harry Percy (nicknamed Hotspur because she has no chill) and her family are mustering an army to move against the King. Can Hal leave behind his wastrel ways in time to reclaim his country, his father’s respect, and his birthright? Or will Sir John Falstaff drag him down into a life of infamy, folly, and hilariously biting insults?

PG: Crude Shakespearean humor, depictions of alcohol use, sword fighting, bloodless onstage deaths

Midsummer Night’s Dream

Directed by Rachel Kohler

August 23rd & 24th at 7 pm

Majestic Theatres Starker Auditorium

Tickets: Adults $15, Child $13

Lovers, fairies, and clowns inhabit this, the most magical of Shakespeare’s comedies! Three intertwined stories weave in and out of the trees of the mysterious Midsummer forest—as four young people find their feelings for one another tangled in a complicated and drama-filled quadrangle of affection, deep in the woods, the King and Queen of the Fairies are themselves engaged in a quarrel of their own. Meanwhile, a group of bumbling (but enthusiastic!) community theatre actors are trying their darndest to rehearse a play in honor of the Duke’s wedding. That famous trickster Robin Goodfellow, aka Puck, is determined to play pranks on them all, throwing their lives (and the plot) into a delightfully comedic fit of Midsummer madness.

After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of The Simpsons episode “Cape Feare” entirely from memory. Seven years later, this and other snippets of pop culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. Seventy-five years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created.

October 12 at 7:30 pm

Majestic Theatre- Starker Auditorium

Tickets: $20

Whenever we bring comedians to town we always ask them “Who are the best new stand-ups we need to know about?” And for the past couple years they’ve all said the same thing, “Maddie Wiener. Maddie Wiener. Maddie Wiener.” Still in her mid-twenties, she’s already opened for everyone from Dave Attell to Nikki Glaser, done a set for Comedy Central, and been named to Just For Laughs’ prestigious New Faces lineup. Originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Maddie Wiener is now one of the most buzzed-about comedians in New York and a regular at the world famous Comedy Cellar.
