STAGED READING SERIES:
IN THE NEXT ROOM (OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY)
By Sarah Ruhl
Tuesday & Wednesday, February 27 & 28, at 7:30 p.m.
Kleist Center for Art & Drama Lobby

This play is by one of our favorite playwrights, a woman with a unique voice who has written plays often chosen for acting and directing scenes. In the Next Room was nominated for 3 Tony awards, and we are very happy to include this play submitted by theatre students for the season. Set in the nineteenth century with its recent innovation of electricity, it explores questions of female sexuality via the story of a Victorian doctor using the new invention of an electric vibrator as a cure for female “hysteria”. His young wife has much to learn about herself as well, and the story is ultimately one in which love comes to the rescue.
