Thelonious Sphere Monk was one of America’s most important jazz pianists and composers. He is one of five jazz musicians to have been featured on the cover of Time Magazine and is the second-most-recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington. For this concert, pianist Zach Bartholomew is bringing in award-winning saxophonist Mark Small (former saxophonist/arranger for Michael Buble) to join his trio in showcasing Monk’s unique compositions. Audiences can expect an evening of rhythmic, dynamic, and energetic jazz you can’t find anywhere outside of New York City!

Jazz, in the words of the iconic musician Jack DeJohnette, “has always been a world music.” That is the premise of this pathbreaking concert, in which Arts Bonita Resident Artist Dr. Zachary Bartholomew brings in the internationally renowned ethnomusicologist and percussionist Michael Bakan, joined by bassist Brandon Robertson and vocalist Nicole Bartholomew, for a diverse program of world-inspired jazz and jazz-inspired world music. Highlighting compositions by Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Alice Coltrane, Astor Piazzolla, Abbey Lincoln, and Tito Puente, Bakan and company will take you on a musical journey extending from India, Turkey, and Tunisia to Brazil, Cuba, and Argentina. Dennis has appeared multiple times on the Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as well as appearances on Showtime and Comedy Central. He was also a writer for the hit TV sitcom - King of Queens.

Joining Larry is comedian, Sheena Reagan, who won Florida’s Funniest Female Competition; Nik Macik who is a nationally touring comedian also seen in Amazon Prime films and Tubi Tv series; and Angela Nacca, who was a Florida's Funniest Female finalist and a crowd favorite in clubs and theaters around Florida. This show has all the ingredients for a fun, maybe a little weird, all-around good time.
