To the Moon

The story of Apollo 11 history books never told.

written by Landon Ashworth

music composed by Jason Pelsey

August 15-18 and 22-25, 2024

To the Moon is a musical dramedy that brings the space race to vibrant life. It tells the story of a present day young girl (Ali) who is seeking admission to the prestigious Mercer Leadership Program. Ali has an admission interview where she'll be asked to describe a hero she admires. Ali wants her hero to be unique and not a "run of the mill" answer. During Ali's summer volunteer work of assisting the elderly, she meets Michael Collins, the forgotten astronaut of the Apollo 11 mission. To their surprise, Ali and Michael form a bond. Utilizing magical realism, history comes to life as they are transported through spacetime to the height of the Cold War as Ali learns of contributions from minority mathematicians, female engineers, and all the historical titans who helped land a man on the moon.
