DREAMS (beyond the narrowplace)
by Nerissa Tunnessen
DREAMS (beyond the narrowplace) is a solo dance theater work by non-binary dancer/choreographer Nerissa Tunnessen. It explores the relationship between community and communal support systems to feelings of isolation, underpinned by connections to the natural world. Created in a residency in Kefalonia, Greece at the Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture, the work centers around an interview with artist and community pillar Sophie Kagadis, who discusses intergenerational community education and caretaking, her mentors, gatherings in celebration of life, and expansive love. The movement works somewhat in opposition to Sophie’s voice and sentiment, expressing and exploring personal feelings of isolation and yearning for community and inclusion within the confines of gendered expectations and roles.
