The Austen-Poe Smackdown

Over the past few years, two colleagues in the Boston College English Department—Rebekah Mitsein, who teaches a course on Jane Austen, and Paul Lewis, who teaches a course on Poe and the Gothic—have engaged each other and their students in a debate about which of these authors is more interesting. Since both Poe and Austen continue to fascinate readers in and beyond the academy, we have invited the professors to bring their debate to Gore Place.
