This piano trio attracted attention after being the first group from Japan to win the piano trio category at the 67th Munich International Music Competition. Formed in 2016, the trio met while studying at Tokyo University of the Arts and the renowned Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy. Based in Germany, the trio is highly regarded for pioneering the world of the classic piano trio repertoire while championing rarely performed music by Japanese composers. “Aoi” refers to the initials of their individual family names and is also the name of a flower in Japan that symbolizes aspiration and fruitfulness.
