Rouge is made of a team of internationally touring musicians based in the Northwest. Founded in 1998 by vocalist Janet Rayor, the group has grown to include accordion, violin, guitar, and acoustic bass. All composers with world, classical and jazz chops, they consistently bring their own take on this classic popular French music, so that each performance is fresh and new. Bassist Cary Black has recorded and performed with a long list of famous groups including Ernestine Anderson, Kingston Trio, and Dan Hicks; accordionist Steve Rice tours internationally with the Harry James Orchestra and Kulshan Chorus; violinist Ruthie Dornfeld records with players in France, Denmark, Hungary, and Finland; guitarist Dave Bartley is known throughout the US, England, and Greece through KGB and Pan Geo; and vocalist Janet Rayor has recorded for film and theatre. Rayor is also a stilt-dancer known throughout the USA, and, as a mime/physical theatre artist, has performed in France, Germany and Seattle Opera's Pagliacci. Together as Rouge, they create an unforgettable experience of cobblestone France that has touched people of all ages from the Northwest to LA and the Midwest.
Rouge celebrates its twelfth anniversary bringing French music to life for modern audiences! Touching people with their playful style around the country--Denver Art Museum to Los Angeles's Red Cat Theatre to Grand Rapids' Grand Valley State University to Seattle's Triple Door--Rouge has reached people of all ages.
