Whether you’re jazz crazy or simply jazz curious, we’re here to satisfy.

On January 11, Mercury hosts some of the North Bay’s finest musicians in a sampler program of jazz’ greatest styles. It’s the final of four “Welcome Home” concerts to celebrate the arrival of Mercury to the theater scene and to welcome audiences and performers to our intimate venue.

No set will flow more smoothly than the Stevie Wonder medley that Grooveyard Jazz has in store. Grooveyard Jazz features singer Ariana LaMark, with Jordan Wardlaw on saxophone, Al Hill on drums and Patrick Gallagher on piano. Their version of “Golden Lady” will astound.

The Gypsy Trio (Ian Scherer and Emily Froberg on guitar, Trevor Kinsel on bass) takes its inspiration from the “hot jazz” style Django Reinhardt pioneered in mid-20th century in Paris.

West County chanteuse Bonnie Brooks and pianist John Simon take us through the American Songbook, featuring songs by the Gershwins, Harold Arlen & Johnny Mercer.

Pianist Neil Fontano shows off his keyboard stride in an homage to New Orleans and Harlem style jazz.

Doors open at 7pm, and arriving early is encouraged as a preshow featuring the Rivertown Skifflers will be taking us back to the 1920s and 30s with a madcap bounce deriving from blues, folk and ragtime.

Jazz in January is open to all ages.
