Wine in the Wilderness
Written by Alice Childress
Directed by TBD
August 9th - October 12th, 2025
An artist is painting a triptych, seeking to capture the essence of Black womanhood in a painting. His assumptions are confronted when he meets a vibrant young woman who challenges his ideals and exposes the complexities of identity, class, and the sexism embedded in his perceptions. Set in the early 1960s, this poignant drama examines the deep divisions within the African American community of the time while serving as a microcosm for the wider societal divides plaguing America today. As stereotypes, misogyny, and class distinctions continue to shape our perceptions, Wine in the Wilderness offers a timely and resonant exploration of how we are all bound by the shared struggle for love, understanding, and our full humanity. In a time where division and polarization define much of the national conversation, Childress’ work reminds us of the urgent need for empathy, self-awareness, and solidarity.
Pay What You Will ticket pricing is available for the August 24th and September 29th performances. A prologue discussion with the cast will take place at 6:30pm prior to both PWYW performances.
