An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer's Music

by Tom Lehrer

April 12 - 20

ALL PERFORMANCES TO BE PERFORMED IN THE CONCORD CITY AUDITORIUM LOBBY AT 2 PRINCE STREET IN CONCORD, NH

Poisoning Pigeons in the Park, The Masochism Tango, Smut, The Vatican Rag, and My Home Town are just a few of the songs Tom Lehrer wrote and performed in recordings and live concerts to great acclaim.

Lehrer has strong connections to New England - he lived in Cambridge for many years and went to summer camp in Maine (Camp Androscoggin) along with another ne'er do well, Stephen Sondheim. There he was both a camper and a counselor.

He also went to Harvard, taught at MIT, and later at the University of California, Santa Cruz (where he lives now mostly having abandoned the East Coast).

None of this is remotely as interesting as the fact that he wrote and performed ""Silent E"" for the children's television program The Electric Company which starred (in part) Rita Moreno and Morgan Freeman.

In 1980, his songs and words were collected by Cameron Mackintosh in the form of a review show. No one knows what happened to Mackintosh (he was presumable eaten by cats). Other than using the words and songs of Tom Lehrer, this musical review (with words and songs) bears absolutely no similarities with the words and songs pulled together by Mackintosh (except, perhaps, some of the words and songs).

If this is your first introduction to the music of Tom Lehrer, we offer you our most profound apologies. Perhaps it might inspire you to go explore Tom Lehrer on your own. It is reported that many of his performances are available on some online viewing platform.

Tom Lehrer has granted permission for us to perform these pieces, but takes no responsibility for the quality or composition. "You bought the ticket; you own it."

NOTE: This production contains adult themes, satire,  and nostalgia for what some of the older folks might refer to as "the good old days". And singing. Not so much dancing though.

Duration is approximately 90 minutes plus an obligatory intermission to encourage you to buy concessions.

Produced by Hatbox Theatre.

Friday & Saturdays @ 7:30pm; Sundays @ 2pm.

PLEASE NOTE OUR POLICIES REGARDING HEALTH AND SAFETY. MASKS ARE OPTIONAL FOR ALL.
