Fate and Destiny
Conducted by Daniel Wiley
Fate and Destiny explores profound forces and tales expressed through music, where each composer grapples with themes of inevitability, transformation, and triumph. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Overture to La Clemenza di Tito opens the program with stately grandeur and dramatic intensity. The program continues with the world premiere of Farhad Poupel’s Orpheus: Symphonic Variations on Themes by Beethoven. Drawing inspiration from Beethoven’s musical language and the Bronze figure of Orpheus outside the Stockholm Philharmonic, Poupel reimagines the legendary tale of Orpheus. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a work often associated with themes of fate, dance, and inexorable motion, concludes the program. From its solemn introduction to the celebratory, rhythm-driven finale, the symphony pulses with unstoppable energy.
