Be swept away by this spell-binding evening of stories in sound, weaving together cultures and legends. The journey begins with Ghost of the White Deer, a powerful bassoon concerto by Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, performed by celebrated bassoonist Rufus Olivier. Native American voices and natural imagery inspired by Chickasaw mythology intertwine to create a hauntingly beautiful soundscape. We venture onward with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the dazzling orchestra suite inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, where the voice of a storyteller dances through the orchestra in rich, exotic color. From the spirit of the forest to the mystery of the sea, this program invites you into a world of imagination, tradition and transcendent beauty.
