The Balcony

October 17-20, 2025
Watters Theater
Various Showtimes

Jean Genet’s The Balcony, directed by José Zayas, reexamines this daring classic with a fresh and modern perspective. Set in a brothel where clients act out fantasies of power, the play blurs the lines between illusion and reality, forcing us to question who truly holds authority in a world on the brink of revolution. Our production departs from the traditional proscenium setup, bringing the audience closer to the performers and offering a striking, thought-provoking vantage point. With this staging, The Balcony becomes not just a performance to watch, but an experience that challenges us to confront how performance itself shapes society.

Content Advisory: Due to mature themes and subject matter, this production is recommended for ages 13 and up.
