Rag Doll on a Bomb Site
October 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Brunner Main Stage Theatre
Associate professor of musical theatre Shelley Cooper will perform her one-woman solo musical. She also wrote, composed, and choreographed the performance.
Set in 1928 Berlin, "Rag Doll" recreates the moments before Lotte Lenya is set to take the stage in the debut premier of The Threepenny Opera but learns her name has been omitted from the playbill. Her husband, Kurt Weill, is furious and demands the cancellation of opening night. Lenya, who escaped an abusive past, refuses to let something so trite in comparison get in the way of the musical debut.
Tickets are “pay what you can” and proceeds will benefit The Penguin Project Quad Cities and Day Spring (Louisville, Ky.), where Cooper’s brother lives.
