Join us for a staged reading of The Iron Whore written by Vincent Kovar and directed by Patrick Hogan. Part of the FIRST DRAFT staged reading series presented by the Edmonds Driftwood Players and Driftwood After Dark.

Synopsis: In 10th-century Italy, Marozia witnesses the cadaver trial of a Pope and learns a brutal lesson: whoever controls Saint Peter’s throne controls God’s voice on Earth. Through numerous seductions, strategic marriages, puppet popes, and a misadventure with beets, the Senatrix establishes “The Pornocracy” when a woman ruled like a man. However, just as the highest authority is within her grasp, she must defend her legacy from the ultimate betrayal. With six actors playing seventeen characters, The Iron Whore follows a woman who was often reviled, sometimes remembered, but one who ultimately redefined power.

Expected Run Time: 100 minutes, with no intermission. A Playwright Feedback session will be held after the reading and is encouraged but optional to stay and participate.
