The Cutting Edge by Middlebury Acting Company Presents:

"Simple Sage"

By Vermont playwright Kate Youngdahl-Stauss

Sunday, February 15 at 4pm

In the Anderson Studio

Presented by Middlebury Acting Company, Town Hall Theater's professional resident theater company, delivering playful, intimate and conversation sparking productions since 2001.

"Simple Sage" by Vermont playwright Kate Youngdahl-Stauss is based on the curious true story of a house in Granville Vermont built in the 18th Century that still stands today. In the 19th Century the house was occupied by the Lamb sisters, two of whom married John Deere. Then in the 1930’s several lesbian farmers came to Granville and rescued the house and land after the collapse of the lumber industry. Tales of Vermont women during these two eras facing the parallel themes of social restraint and the degradation of the natural landscape are woven together in the play revealing a potential message for our own time. The playwright, Kate Youngdahl-Stauss will be at the performance and will participate in the talk-back after the performance.

ABOUT STAGED READINGS
This performance will be presented as a staged reading, where talented actors bring the script to life with minimal staging and props, focusing on the power of the text and performances. Unlike full productions, staged readings allow audiences to experience cutting-edge contemporary works while engaging directly with the raw emotional core of the play. Join us after the performance for an exciting talk-back session with the cast and director to discuss the themes and questions raised by this thought-provoking work.
