The Minutes

Presented by The Buckley Performing Arts Department, is a powerful dark comedy by Tracy Letts. The story of a City Council meeting in the fictional town of Big Cherry. Peel, the newest member of the town council, arrives to find that Carp, a fellow member, is missing as are the minutes of the last meeting. Having missed last week's meeting, Peel attempts to get to the bottom of this. In this scathing comedy-drama, a town’s proud history, the legend of a local hero, and the coveted privilege of reserved parking become battle grounds for small-town politics. Nothing is sacred in this razor-sharp comedy that turns from hilarious to chilling as petty policy matters give way to the truth roiling just beneath the surface of this town’s dubious history. The smallest of towns keep the biggest of secrets.

The Minutes had its premiere at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago in 2017 and Letts was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Letts is a prolific Broadway Playwright (August: Osage County, Superior Donuts) and has a play, Bug, running on Broadway this spring. The Minutes opened on Broadway in 2022 and was nominated for the 2022 Tony Award for Best Play.
