Set in a **stylish 1960s jazz club**, this Mass Arts Center production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night reimagines a classic romantic comedy. Co-directors Marianne Phinney and Ben Medeiros bring the story to life inside a retro music lounge, complete with original tunes by composer Bruce Webster that underscore the show's changing alliances.
When a shipwreck strands the resourceful Viola on an unfamiliar shore, she disguises herself as a male servant for protection. Her decision sets off a chaotic chain reaction of mistaken identities, secret crushes, and unrequited love. While noble characters suffer through poetic romantic angst, the club’s unruly staff pulls off a riotous prank on the arrogant steward Malvolio.
It’s a bittersweet story about fluid identity, gender disguises, and the absurdity of the human heart.
