Agnes and her teenage daughter, Penny, run a quiet bed and breakfast on Whidbey Island. It’s 1972, before Roe v. Wade and the Violence Against Women Act, and this B&B is secretly an underground shelter for women seeking to escape domestic violence. This deeply moving and thought-provoking play offers a powerful look at feminism, survival, and solidarity as these women wrestle with their pasts while fighting for a better future, serving as a reminder that the path to women's rights was perilous, and that the protection of those rights remains constantly threatened today.
Content Warning: This production features adult content and intense subject matter regarding domestic violence and sexual assault, including graphic descriptions/discussions of physical and sexual abuse and is recommended for mature audiences.
