RUSSIAN SPRING
3 Performances!
Orchestral music from Russia has been some of the most sought after and longstanding repertoire in classical music. CGOA's Gorge Sinfonietta explores three seminal composers who left a significant impact in orchestral music, but not their most renowned works. Rimsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Overture is a brilliant and intoning work, moving from the orthodox church into the light as it explores all of the amazing orchestral colors that this fantastic orchestrator could create. Shostakovitch's October has all of the intensity and grandeur of his symphonies in a tone poem of fifteen minutes. If you're looking for drama in music, Shostakovich is it. And lastly, we visit Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 2. The opening horn solo brings the call of the stage like his ballet works, and the symphony unfolds with all of the Russian drama and beauty that one expects from this musical cornerstone.
