BNW Co-founders Claire Beckman and John Edmond Morgan play Samuel Beckett’s married couple Winnie and Willie in his existential tragicomedy HAPPY DAYS directed by Jade King Carroll, artistic director of Chautauqua Theater Company.

Samuel Beckett’s vision for HAPPY DAYS of a middle aged woman up to her waist in a scorched mound of earth, evoked an apocalyptic wasteland when it was written during the Cold War, but like all great classics it has evolved, and continues to be relevant as a metaphor for our climate crisis, political quagmire, and seeming inability to get un-stuck despite obvious harm to ourselves and the planet… Winnie says "it is no hotter today than yesterday, it will be no hotter tomorrow than today." Darkly funny and surprisingly full of hope, featuring a corner-thrust scenic design by Brittany Vasta for Loading Dock’s intimate 33-seat house, director Jade King Carroll says “ 'HAPPY DAYS' is about reaching for hope and connection." Lighting Designer Li Yiyun, Costume Designer and BNW company member Martina Nevermann, and Sound Designer Jane Shaw round out the creative team promising a unique, intimate and powerful Beckett classic for autumn 2026.
