Our 2026–27 season, Epic Works, showcases four remarkable large-scale compositions that demonstrate the depth, imagination, and expressive power of the wind band repertoire. Each concert features a major multi-movement work as its centerpiece, while remaining true to the Maryland Winds tradition of offering audiences a rich and diverse musical experience throughout the season.
Our second featured work is Percy Grainger’s In a Nutshell, the celebrated four-movement suite first performed in 1916. In just twenty minutes, Grainger captures the rhythmic vitality, folk-inspired melodies, and inventive orchestration that define his unmistakable compositional voice. Compact in length but expansive in imagination, the work remains one of the great masterpieces of the wind band repertoire.
