Man of La Mancha
Book by Dale Wasserman
Music by Mitch Leigh and Lyrics by Joe Darion
Directed by Jacqueline Poquette
Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th century masterpiece Don Quixote, this
enduring musical explores the sometimes thin line between reality and insanity.
Performed as a play-within-a-play, the story of the “mad” knight, Don Quixote,
is re-enacted by the poet Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as they await a
hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Its beautiful score, featuring the anthem
“The Impossible Dream”, led the way to five Tony Awards in 1965 and a Broadway
run of six years. “The show lends itself to be shown in a small, intimate space,
with the story unfolding in the audience’s lap to make that human connection.”
