THE LADY'S NOT FOR BURNING
by Christopher Fry
Jan 24 - Feb 8, 2014 • Mainstage
A romantic comedy about witch-burning, arranged marriage and a soldier who wants to die in 1400s England, this acclaimed play was a hit in the UK and on Broadway. Thomas is a soldier returning from war who wants nothing more than to be hanged, but the townsfolk are more focused on the danger of local accused witch, Jennet. In Thomas’ quest to die and Jennet’s to live, they find themselves a catalyst for changing perspectives and new love. Written by Christopher Fry in 1949 to hint at then-current post-WWII events, its characters and themes are still relevant today.
