Director's Note: "An amazing man, actor Stephen Mckinley Henderson once told me, “As an artist onstage, never make it right, make it TRUE”. I think jazz music and the world of this incredible art form sums up Mr. Henderson’s inspiring words perfectly. Like life, jazz music is not meant to be perfect. It is an art form that thrives on tension and release. Onstage, one must be fully present in the moment, utilizing technique, imagination, and collaboration. Like all great art forms, jazz music strives to get to the core of humanity. There is a reason Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter and a swing beat played on a ride cymbal as part of a drum set have the exact same rhythm. They both mimic a beating heart. Jazz music and the people involved in it changed my life. It has made me a better musician, actor, director, and most importantly, human being. It is a true American art form and I will forever be in its debt. Thank you all for coming on this journey with us tonight."- John Snow
