Kokoro Dance (Vancouver)

( )

( ) (pronounced ‘brackets’) is about the unspeakable and the invisible. It is about life and death, departure and loss, love and resurrection. It is a commitment of ourselves to the moment. We want to stretch that moment to create a space and time that has room for reflection and meditation. Parentheses are used to interject explanatory remarks. We cannot explain the meaning of life and death so we have put that meaning in parenthetical brackets. We dance to fill the space between the parenthetical brackets. We were inspired by the Sigur Rós album entitled ( ) where the tracks have no titles and the lyrics are sung in a made-up language called hopelandic. The band wants its listeners to make up their own meanings of what they are singing so we created a dance to the album to physically express the emotions we feel when listening to it.
