Indy Jazz Fest 2014 celebrates Indianapolis’ jazz legacy with a toast to trombonist and native J.J. Johnson, who would have turned 90 this year. A disciple of Indy’s own Johnson, Steve Turre’s playing is rooted in the hard and post bop tradition that jazz fans love. Turre has played and recorded with many jazz greats since the 1970’s including Woody Shaw, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver and has been a fixture of the Saturday Night Live Band since 1984.
