“Try to Remember” is the most recognizable song from the original production of The Fantasticks. In the 60s, Jerry Orbach ( El Gallo), performed the song in the musical that opened off-Broadway in 1960 and ran for 42 years making it the world’s longest running musical. The musical tells an allegorical story concerning two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt into falling in love by pretending to feud. The resulting deception sends the children in different directions, but the experiences of the real world bring them back. This story supported by breezy, inventive music helped to make this show so durable. “Try to Remember,” the most recognizable song from the show has contributed to thousands of performances in the US and 67 foreign countries.
