In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, we meet the “star crossed lovers” in typical adolescent normalcy; Romeo is desperately tormented by unrequited love and Juliet is frustrated by the impossible expectations of her parents. Yet these typical young adults are thrown into an atypical trajectory as a romantic infatuation becomes a desperate love affair, and a desperate love affair becomes a death sentence.

Romeo and Juliet are played by local, experienced actors who are themselves, 14 years old. This production focuses on the authentic experiences of a young adult held by the confines of a world that generations before them created.

Throughout the rehearsal process, cast members have been working with professional actor, James Ridge, a 17 season company member of American Players Theater.  All sword fighting and combat scenes are choreographed by local stage combat professional and Raven Software stunt choreographer, Jeff Skubal.

This full-scale production is set in traditional time period. The costumes have been thoroughly researched to authentically align with the characters of the late fifteenth century. The scenic design is more symbolic, with the lines of traditional Verona but the texture of a world created out of generations of rage and resentment.
