Red, White, and Rosie is a riveting musical about the forgotten soldiers of World War II – the women who worked in the factories, building the ships and planes so vital to the war movement.
The women discover that working in a man’s world is not easy, but the growing sense of pride in what they were accomplishing contributes to the strength as they stand up for their rights. The musical entertains without much strain, yet it makes pointed comments about social issues including sexism, racism, militarism and even capitalism.
The conspiracy between plant owner, Royce, and the union boss to keep Rosie in her place and to keep the bombers coming after the war ends provides intriguing narrative twists in the second act.
